Ex-IFC Executive Sayan Ghosh Launches Ortella Global Capital with INR 300 Cr (US$ 36 Mn) Corpus, targeting 50%+ CAGR

19th November, Delhi, India – Ortella Global Capital (OG Capital) has announced the launch of its INR 300 Cr (US$ 36 Mn) venture capital fund, establishing itself as India’s first and only VC fund to co-build companies alongside founders.

By leveraging a distinctive co-building model, OG Capital goes beyond funding to provide hands-on operational support across growth phases, positioning startups for profitable hyper-scaling to become the next unicorns. This groundbreaking approach sets OG Capital apart in India’s venture ecosystem. The fund plans to invest in over 20 companies up to INR 15 Cr (US$ 2 Mn) each and has already backed three promising startups. It is targeting early and growth-stage startups in high-potential sectors such as consumer and enterprise solutions.

“Our vision at OG Capital is to redefine early-stage investing by going beyond just writing cheques. We believe in rolling up our sleeves and co-building alongside founders to tackle the big challenges head-on, helping them build high growth, profitable and impactful businesses,” said Sayan Ghosh, Managing Partner of OG Capital. “We are not only targeting 10x returns for our investors but are also co-building companies that prioritize grassroots-level impact, sustainability and gender diversity. The venture capital ecosystem in India is still in its infancy, with annual investments amounting to less than US$ 10 Bn. The ecosystem's direct and indirect impacts are expected to spur innovation and growth across various industries, significantly contributing to India's goal of achieving the US$ 5 Tn GDP.”

Sayan brings over a decade of experience as an entrepreneur, an investment banker and an investor. Most recently, during his time at the World Bank, he was instrumental in driving standout investments and exits for companies like Lenskart, upGrad, 1mg, and BigBasket. He has a proven track record of delivering exits worth more than INR 1500 Cr (~US$ 200 Mn) at a 40% CAGR. In addition, as a limited partner, he has deployed INR 2500 Cr (~US$ 300 Mn) after evaluating over 350 funds, including venture capital, growth equity, private equity and venture debt funds across India. His deep understanding of the venture ecosystem and his experience of delivering successful exits across sectors and vintages, combined with OG Capital’s deep operational expertise, set the fund apart as a powerhouse in the Indian venture ecosystem.

OG Capital’s team, composed of seasoned founders and operators, is the largest early-stage investment team in India. Their expertise spans scaling startups, identifying product-market fit, driving profitability, building go-to-market strategies, and facilitating high-value exits. This operational depth underpins their co-building strategy, which aims to create the next generation of unicorns.

By focusing on high-growth sectors and delivering exceptional returns for investors, OG Capital is set to lead India’s venture capital ecosystem into a new era of co-creating impactful and scalable businesses.
